Tax Services Cape Town
Bizztax Accountants provides comprehensive tax services for individuals, entrepreneurs and businesses across South Africa. We are registered General Tax Practitioners and Business Accountants in Practice, helping clients meet their SARS obligations accurately and on time.
What are tax services?
Tax services cover the preparation, submission and management of all tax-related obligations with the South African Revenue Service (SARS). This includes individual income tax returns, company tax returns, provisional tax, VAT, PAYE, tax clearance certificates and SARS dispute resolution. A registered tax practitioner ensures your submissions are accurate, compliant and submitted before SARS deadlines — avoiding penalties and interest.
Who needs a tax practitioner?
Any individual earning income in South Africa, any registered company, close corporation or trust, and any business registered for VAT or PAYE is required to submit returns to SARS. A registered tax practitioner is particularly valuable for business owners, self-employed individuals, commission earners, property investors, and anyone with multiple income sources or complex tax affairs.
Our Tax Services
Individual Income Tax Returns (ITR12)
We prepare and submit your annual income tax return (ITR12) to SARS. This includes employment income, rental income, investment income, capital gains and allowable deductions. We ensure you claim all legitimate deductions — including medical expenses, retirement annuity contributions and home office costs — and that your return is submitted before the SARS filing deadline.
Company Tax Returns (ITR14)
We prepare and submit your company's annual income tax return (ITR14) to SARS. This includes reconciling your financial statements with your tax computation, calculating taxable income, applying allowable deductions and ensuring your return is submitted within the required timeframe. We also assist with SARS queries and assessments.
Provisional Tax (IRP6)
Provisional tax is paid by individuals and companies that earn income other than a salary. We calculate your provisional tax liability, prepare and submit your IRP6 returns for the first and second provisional tax periods, and advise on the optimal payment strategy to avoid SARS penalties and interest.
VAT Registration and Returns
We assist with VAT registration once your turnover exceeds the R1 million threshold (or voluntary registration from R50 000). We prepare and submit your VAT201 returns on a monthly or bi-monthly basis, reconcile your VAT account, and manage SARS VAT audits and queries on your behalf.
PAYE, UIF and SDL
Employers are required to deduct PAYE (Pay As You Earn), UIF (Unemployment Insurance Fund) and SDL (Skills Development Levy) from employee salaries and remit these to SARS monthly via EMP201 returns. We manage your payroll tax submissions, reconcile your EMP501 annual return and ensure your business remains compliant with all employer tax obligations.
SARS Compliance and Dispute Resolution
We assist clients who have received SARS assessments, penalties, audit notifications or verification requests. We represent you in correspondence with SARS, prepare objections and appeals where appropriate, and work to resolve outstanding tax matters efficiently. We also assist with SARS registration, tax number applications and eFiling profile management.
Tax Clearance Certificates
A Tax Compliance Status (TCS) pin — formerly known as a tax clearance certificate — is required for government tenders, foreign investment allowances and emigration. We ensure your tax affairs are in order and assist you in obtaining your TCS pin from SARS eFiling promptly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about tax services and SARS compliance in South Africa.
When is the SARS tax return deadline for individuals in South Africa?
SARS typically opens the individual tax filing season in July each year. The deadline for non-provisional taxpayers filing online via eFiling is usually in October or November of the same year. Provisional taxpayers have until January of the following year. Deadlines change annually — contact Bizztax to confirm the current year's dates.
Do I need to submit a tax return if I only earn a salary?
You are required to submit an income tax return if your gross income exceeds the tax threshold (R95 750 for taxpayers under 65 in the 2025 tax year), or if SARS has issued you with a return. Even if you are below the threshold, it is advisable to submit if you have medical aid contributions, retirement annuity deductions or other deductions to claim.
What is provisional tax and who must pay it?
Provisional tax is a method of paying income tax in advance during the tax year, rather than as a lump sum at year end. You are a provisional taxpayer if you earn income other than a salary — for example, rental income, business income, commission or investment income. Provisional tax is paid in two instalments: the first by the end of August and the second by the end of February.
When must a business register for VAT in South Africa?
A business must register for VAT when its taxable turnover exceeds or is expected to exceed R1 million in any consecutive 12-month period. Voluntary registration is available from R50 000 in taxable turnover. Once registered, VAT returns (VAT201) must be submitted monthly or bi-monthly depending on your VAT category.
What happens if I miss a SARS deadline?
SARS imposes administrative penalties for late submission of returns and interest on late payments. Penalties can be significant and accumulate monthly. If you have missed a deadline, contact Bizztax as soon as possible — we can assist with voluntary disclosure, penalty remission applications and getting your tax affairs back in order.
How do I get a tax clearance certificate (TCS pin) in South Africa?
A Tax Compliance Status (TCS) pin is obtained via SARS eFiling once all your tax returns are submitted and any outstanding tax debt is settled or a payment arrangement is in place. Bizztax can ensure your tax affairs are compliant and assist you in generating your TCS pin for tenders, foreign investment or emigration purposes.
